OMG I haven't posted here yet! (this year anyway)

Here it goes:
As always I only count movies I haven't seen before. Movies from the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die - List^ have a *
(^yes I know it's an old list but I focus on the older films anyway because the more recent ones change too much XD)

1) C'era una volta il West (1968)* Once Upon a Time in the West
It was way better then I though. Interesting and fun. And of course good cinematography.

2) All the President's Men (1976)*
Well done. I am not that much into political films and I am also not that interested in the Watergate case itself but it was a nice film. Though I admit knowing almost nothing about it I found it sometimes hard to follow their thoughts XD

3) Platoon (1986)*
A good and well done (Anti-)War movie, however I have seen way too many already. So I wasn't that impressed by it or could enjoy it.

4) The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)
Yay! the Hobbit! being a fangirl I of course liked it, though some elements weren't "necessary" changes and therefore "bothersome" for me but it wasn't as bad as I expected (thought it would be annoying changes like the ones in The Two Towers). Great film, 3D was okay, go watch it!

5) Beginners (2010)
Nice film, I really really liked it. The awkwardness, the simple wish to change/improve. No "ideal world" but rather something more close to real life. It was refreshing and interesting.

6) Silent Hill Revelation (2012)
I wasn't fond of the first film and therefore I didn't expect much. I am still not a fan but wasn't as confusing and "overloaded" as the first one.

7) Romeos (2011)
It was really different from what I thought XD Yay for a film about the problems of a transsexual. Though I think they could have been even more sensitive but I guess it's okay like this. A film suitable for the masses to get in contact with that topic.

8) The Hurt Locker (2008)*
Interesting and somehow sad.

9) The Queen's Sister (2005)
I did not know much about her but I liked this film, I have no idea how accurate it is though.

10) Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
Brilliant, I love it! The character animation fits their respective game, and the story is just nice. Could be Asian: we all have our role to play XD

11) Sleeping Beauty (1959)
I know Disney loves to take fair tales and change them into nice little stories, normally I don't mind. Hey I want some cotton-candy world every once in a while but this one? No. simply no.

12) Das weiße Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte (2009)* The White Ribbon
wow, brilliant film! I loved the tone of the film and the story telling and the actors and.. I just loved everything about this. Go watch it!

13) Il gattopardo (1963)* The Leopard
Not a bad film, if you like such stories. It wasn't interesting for me.

14) Strictly Ballroom (1992)*
Nice and fun.

15) Gomorra (2008)*

16) How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
Fun film and cute. I liked it a lot.

17) Hotel Transylvania (2012)
An overbearing parent who only wants the best for his child. Simple premise but it's not at all boring. It's fun to watch and it has heart warming moments as well.

18) Pocahontas (1995)
I'm not one for such a story. sorry.

19) Megamind (2010)
Nice change.

20) ParaNorman (2012)

Movies 2012 1-22

I've been a bit slack about keeping track of movies. And you'd think it would be easier now that I don't work for a video store. Apparently I still watch too many movies.

1. The Silencers (1966)
2. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
3. The Thin Man (1934)
4. After the Thin Man (1936)
5. Another Thin Man (1939)
6. Shadow of the Thin Man (1941)
7. The Thin Man Goes Home (1944)
8. Song of the Thin Man (1947)

Yeah, there was a Thin Man marathon happening on TCM. I can watch these everytime they're on, though I prefer the earlier ones to the ones done in the '40s.

9. Holiday (1938) I can never pass up a Katharine Hepburn film
10. Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (2011)
11. Letters to Three Wives (1949) Better than I expected it to be from the brief description I'd read.
12. Each Dawn I Die (1939)
13. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
14. The Public Enemy (1931)
15. The Misfits (1961)
16. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
17. Total Recall
18. Only Angels Have Wings (1939)
19. Boom Town (1940)
20. Fury (1936)
21. Action in the North Atlantic (1941)
22. All the King's Men (1949)

I know I watched more than that but didn't keep track well at the beginning of February

50 movies and it's only June

Netflix is the crack. Bad horror on demand. i think I'm trying for 100 movies this year.

Collapse )
48) Lost Boys: The Thirst. The Frog brothers are recruited by a paranormal romance writer to rescue her brother who disappeared at a vampire rave. Interesting concept, retread script. Two excellent moments, and they both belong to Allan Frog. (f,2)

49) Class of Nuke'em High. Cult film about toxic waste turning the honor society into Mad Max rejects. Entertaining. Very 80s. (p)

50) Session 9. An asbestos clean up crew takes on an abandoned mental hospital, but one of them is listening to tapes of a MPD woman's therapy sessions. Slow, but tense. Very good. (f,1)

51) Practical Magic. A pair of sisters live with their witchy aunts after their mother's death and must deal with the family curse that any man they love will die. Moderately accurate depiction of witchcraft, super hot Nicole Kidman licking Sandra Bullock's neck, and Stockard Channing being absolutely fabulous. BETTER THAN THE BOOK! (p)

11 - 20

I only count movies I haven't seen before. Movies from the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die - List have a *
You find a them listed by year here.

1001 movies: 13
movies in total: 20

11) The War Game (1965)*
Brilliant film. Everybody should watch this film. It's so important and still true and relevant.

12) An American Werewolf in London (1981)*
I love Jack and David's interaction. The story is interesting - even though you kinda know what's going to happen. And the scene in the porno theatre is just hilarious XD

13) The Grapes of Wrath (1940)*
Well done film.

14) Dog Day Afternoon (1975)*
Nice movie.

15) Rookies: Sotsugyô (2009) Rookies: Graduation
Somehow I got the feeling they were crying all the time *lol* Not as good as the tv show but simply because you had only limited time to tell the story. It probably would have been better as second season. Still, it end the series in a nice way.

16) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)
It's part 1 of 2. That means there is no real ending. It's a part that continues the story however it does lack a climax and at least a somewhat ending. All we get is a "breather"-segment, which is okay for a cliffhanger but not for a movie. Despite that I like the movie. It's interesting and different from the earlier ones, which gives it a fresh feeling.

17) Duck Soup (1933)*
Simply not my thing.

18) Now, Voyager (1942)*
A nice love story but the portrayal of mental illness is bad. Of course you can overcome a life of mistreatment in a few month *rolleyes* Apart from that fact I liked the film.

19) The Palm Beach Story (1942)*
Good Screwball Comedy, if you like them.

20) Modern Times (1936)*
In the beginning it seems like a mixture of a talking picture and a silent film but it becomes more and more a "classic" Chaplin film. Quite enjoyable and a good film to mark the end of "the tramp"
